What type of glass is best for your car?

Depending on what type of glass replacement you need, there are multiple different types of glass that are best for your car.

Not all types are the same because the different areas of glass in the car do not provide the same services. Make sure you specify what glass on your car needs replacing so you can ensure you get the best result for your money.

Windshield Glass

There are three different types of windshield glass for your car: Dealer, Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) and Aftermarket.

Dealer glass is what your car comes with originally, OEM is glass that comes from the same manufacturer as your car and Aftermarket is glass that comes from a different manufacturer as your car, but will still work for your car.

When buying your car, Dealer glass is best because it is what was originally meant for your car, but other than that there is no clear consensus on if OEM or Aftermarket is the better replacement.

Check with an auto glass professional when looking for the best glass for your new windshield.

Tempered Glass

Tempered glass is mostly found in the back and door windows of your car. This is a type of safety glass that increases its strength compared to normal glass by controlled thermal or chemical treatments.

This is a great type of glass for the back and door windows of your car because it does not break as easily as regular types of glass will. If it does not break as easily, your car windows will require less maintenance than regular glass.

Laminated Glass

Laminated glass is another type of glass that can be used for your windshield. This type breaks easier than tempered glass does, but it is made to survive more extreme circumstances, such as flying shards of glass.

Laminated glass is sometimes three to four times more expensive than tempered glass because it is more complex to make. Although it is more expensive, it protects passengers more than other types of glass and can be the best option for your car.
